Chapter 1 - Starting the Journey of a Lifetime

Updated: Aug 25, 2019

Suddenly, Paul zipped away, and the wheat started to magically get cut and tied into small wheat bundles.

One day as Paul was working in the field, he was tapped gently on the shoulder from behind. He had been so engrossed in his work that the light tap startled him and made him forget to hide his powers in case it was someone who didn’t know about magical powers. Paul’s power was Amber. He could absorb other people’s powers, virtually forcing them to share it with him. The original owner of the power still had the power, and now, so did Paul. He could also tell exactly what power he absorbed and when he absorbed it. For instance, one day, while he was walking through a large crowd of people, he brushed against someone in the crowd who had the power of Speed. So, he had that power now.

When he felt the tap, he turned around so quickly that to any normal eyes it would look like he suddenly was facing them without even going through the process of turning around. When Paul saw who it was that had tapped him, he exhaled with relief. In front of him he saw one of his best friends.

“Oh, hey Silvia,“ Paul said. Paul had a fairly deep voice, light brown hair, amber eyes, and was 5’ 8” tall. Paul was 15 years old and lived on a farm on the outskirts of a town called L'till.

“Hi, Paul,” Silvia replied. “I was wondering if you would want to go with me and Zachariah to a village north of here. They're having a talent show and I want to participate.” Silvia had black hair, blue eyes, and was 5’ 2” tall. She was 14 years old and lived closer to the middle of the town than Paul. She had the power of Water.

“Sure.” Paul replied, “If you go ask my dad, I'll finish this up real quick and get the horses and wagon ready. Meet me at the barn.”

“Ok, I’ll see you there.” Suddenly, Paul zipped away, and the wheat started to magically get cut and tied into small wheat bundles. Because Silvia had a power, she could see and hear everything more slowly than it actually happened, so when Paul sped off, she could see the blur of his speeding body as it zipped by.

She ran as fast as she could towards Paul’s house trying to get to the barn before Paul did. First, she had to get to the house and get Paul's dad, Isaiah, to give Paul permission to go. As soon as she got to the log cabin, she reached up for the pull string that would ring the doorbell. DING, DING, DING. She waited about 30 seconds before the door opened and when it did, she was still out of breath from running.

“Oh, hello, Silvia, what can I do for you?” Isaiah asked.

After waiting a few seconds to catch her breath, Silvia replied, “I’m wondering if Paul can come with me and Zach to the talent show in a town north of here.” She said, “He said that he would go if it was ok with you.”

“I suppose he can go as long as he is back before noon tomorrow.”

“Thank you, sir," Silvia called over her shoulder as she ran at top speed toward the barn.

When she got to the barn, she saw two horses attached to a small yet sturdy looking wooden wagon. Inside of the wagon she saw Paul and Zachariah sitting there eating crackers and laughing at their own jokes. She slowed to a walk when she saw that trying to reach the barn before Paul did was useless. She sprayed a little bit of cold water on her head to cool herself down.

Zach had dark brown hair, greenish-gray eyes, and a voice less deep than Paul’s but not at all high pitched. He had the power of Earth, which included Nature and Super Strength. He was 5’ 1” tall and was 14 years old.

“You're allowed to go as long as your back before noon tomorrow,” Silvia said to Paul. “How did you get here so fast?” She asked Zach.

“Paul has my Super Strength and someone else’s Speed,” Zach replied. “He carried me.”

“I see. Are you ready to go?” she asked, hopping into the wagon.

“Yup, let’s go,” Zach said.

They set off in the wagon, heading north.
