Jail Break - Part Two

As Noelle and I crept down the edge of Jessica’s territory, I kept an eye on the hill by the house.
I thought, If someone is going to ambush us, they’ll be on top of that hill, right?
Right, my brain answered.
So, if Jessie is up on the hill, then I don’t have to worry about this big tree, right?
WRONG!!
Jessie leaped out from behind the tree tagged me! I was a prisoner! Jessie had been going for Noelle, but she missed and got me on accident. She tried to get Noelle again, but Noelle jumped back to the neutral road just in time.
Jessie grabbed me and we walked along the bottom of the steep hill by the house. I looked back and saw Noelle running back to Allison and shouting, “Nattie got caught!”
Isaac met Jessie and I about halfway down the side of the house. I stood patiently while Jessie told him what had happened. Then, Isaac shoved me forward, and we started for his prison, which turned out to be under the tall stilts that supported the little hut of the
playhouse.
There was a reason we weren’t allowed to take the flag when we escaped from jail. Their flag was right there. Two feet beyond my reach.
Isaac kept a close eye on me for about thirty seconds, until Kate came over.
“I need to talk to you about something,” she said. She pulled him out of my hearing range. As she looked at me, her expression clearly said 'You are not allowed to hear this.' At least, that what I thought. She may have been thinking something entirely different.
Isaac stood facing toward me while Kate whispered her plan in her ear. I couldn’t hear a word of whatever she said. I stepped back so that Isaac couldn’t see me as well. His line of sight was blocked by the ramp that led up to the little hut.
It was boring in jail. There was nothing to do but stand there. I wondered what my teammates were doing. Hopefully they weren’t planning a rescue mission.
I decided to go for a walk. I walked straight out of jail towards the big, round hill. I walked over the top of the hill in plain sight. Isaac and Kate didn’t appear to notice the fact that I was missing.
My escape had started out as a joke, but no one had said anything about me walking around. No one had said anything about having to yell ‘Jailbreak,’ either. I decided to make my escape real.
I walked toward home. As far as I knew, Isaac and Kate still hadn’t noticed me missing. Once I knew they couldn’t see me, I started running. I wasn’t sure where Jessie was, so I tried to be as quiet as possible.
I didn’t really need to worry. Jessica was on border patrol in front of the house. I easily snuck by her and over to the garage in my own territory.
“YES!!!” I shouted.
“WHAT?!?!” Jessie shouted in disbelief, “How did you get out?!”
“I walked. On my legs. Then I ran. On my legs,” I said.
I heard Isaac shouting back at his fort. “Natalia! Get back here! You have to yell ‘jailbreak’!!”
“No, I don’t! You never said that! No one said that!” I shouted back. He and Kate came to the neutral road, and I walked down the hill from the garage to meet them.
“Natalia, you have to yell ‘jailbreak,’” Isaac repeated.
Kate was our undeclared leader. I turned to her, “Kate, do I have to yell ‘jailbreak’?”
Jessie and Grace turned to Kate, along with Isaac. “Does she?” Isaac asked.
“No, she doesn’t need to yell ‘jailbreak’.”
“Yeah! See, guys? It defeats the purpose of a jailbreak! If I was in a real jail, I wouldn’t have to yell ‘jailbreak,’!”
Isaac grumbled and went back to his post at his flag. The girls also resumed their positions, and I went to my flag to have a counsel of war with my team.
“What happened?” Allison asked.
“I just walked out of their jail. We had a little argument about whether or not I had to yell ‘jailbreak,’ but Kate says I don’t need to. It defeats the purpose.”
“That’s funny! What do we do now?” Allison asked.
“I don’t want to go for their flag again,” said Noelle.
I decided not to risk another expedition for their flag at the moment. “Yeah, I think we’ll just hang out for a while. Noelle, you take over guarding the flag. Allison, do you want to hide behind the pool again? I think ill find a good place to hide, try to ambush some of them. If we get as many of them in our jail as possible, then one of us can go for their flag with less trouble.”
“Yeah,” said Allison, “I’ll go hide.”
“I really don’t want to guard the flag,” Noelle said, “It’s really boring!”
“I know, but it’s the best thing you can do. Me and Allison are going to have the best shot at the flag if we get a chance, and we will be able to catch the other kids if we both go hide.”
She didn’t complain any more.
I turned to go and find a hiding place. Allison was walking toward the pool. I could only see Grace and Kate on the road. Jessie and Isaac must have gone back to their hiding places.
As I walked casually along the road, the Toad Stump caught my eye. I checked to make sure the enemy patrollers weren’t watching and crouched down behind it.
After a long silence, Isaac crept onto my territory. He was trying to hide by the Pear Tree, but the light from the house gave him away to me.
I could have captured him, but everyone else decided to be done playing. I had to give up my hiding place.
We all went inside and watched each other play Donkey Kong on the Nintendo.
